Commander Hugh M Montague aged over 60 [Senior Naval Officer Aberdeen, & also S N O on the escape] with Mrs Martin of the "Methodist Mission" wearing a Chinese favour on her lapel, and Admiral Chan Chak's ADC Lt-Cdr Henry Heng Hsu. Police Supt Bill Robinson of the Indian Police is behind with the white neck scarf.
The Methodist Mission at S(h)uikwan was run by Mr & Mrs Martin with a staff of six missionaries and their wives. It was here that Admiral Chan Chak finally had the bullet removed from his wrist by Dr S H Mooreat the "Ho Sai" hospital. The Admiral kept the bullet and had it mounted on a gold chain which he wore from his left lapel.
Commander Montague was appointed Local Defence, and Commander Boom Defence in New Zealand in October 1942 "The preparation and installation of the booms were carried out under the superintendence of Commander H. M. Montague, OBE, RN, Staff Officer (Boom Defence)."
